Mr. West began his career in Real Estate in 1986 and brings a wealth of experience to Milestone Realty Services, Inc., an SEC Registered Investment Advisor. Throughout his career, he has directed acquisitions, dispositions and workouts for several Taft-Hartley pension funds, including Laborers’ Pension Trust Fund – Detroit & Vicinity, Operating Engineers’ Local 324 Pension Fund, and Carpenters’ Pension Trust Fund - Detroit & Vicinity.

As President of Milestone, Mr. West is integral to formulating investment strategies for the clients’ real estate portfolios and analyzing risk/return projections consistent with such strategies. He directs loan and equity originations including deal identification, financial analysis and negotiations, due diligence procedures and agreement negotiation and documentation drafting. He monitors portfolio investment performance and, in conjunction with clients, determines appropriate hold/sell strategies for each asset. He oversees disposition transactions from initial marketing of properties to offer analysis, sales negotiation through final closing documentation.

Prior to forming Milestone, Mr. West was Senior Vice President of Acquest Realty Advisors, Inc. and prior to that, was Chief Financial Officer of Ann Arbor Associates/Vernon Development, a full-service real estate development firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. While at Ann Arbor Associates, Mr. West was responsible for finance and marketing for assets including the 655-acre Stonebridge Golf Community and development of a state-of-the-art multiple rink Ice Arena and Fitness Center in Ann Arbor.

Mr. West’s background also includes financial and investment banking experience with the Financial Services Group of Cushman & Wakefield with emphasis in retail, office and multi-family products.

Mr. West holds an MBA from the University of Michigan where he graduated with distinction. While at the University, Mr. West received the Henry S. Miller Award for the Top 25 Outstanding Real Estate Students in the Country as determined by the Urban Land Institute. He holds an undergraduate degree in accounting and finance from the University of Michigan - Dearborn.

Mr. West is a Certified Public Accountant, a designation he received while working as a tax specialist at Ernst & Young in Detroit. He was an adjunct Professor of Real Estate at Wayne State University and is a licensed real estate broker in the state of Michigan. Mr. West is a founder and director of The Matthew M. West Foundation and a board member of Lighthouse Community Development, an organization committed to providing affordable housing to low and moderate income families. He is a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Urban Land Institute.
